You’ll look purrfect in these Catwoman costumes

Catwoman cosplay is so much fun.

Ah, Catwoman—DCs most famous feline and the finest thief Gotham’s ever seen. Having made her debut as The Cat in June 1940, Selina Kyle has been Batman’s longest running love interest (although it’s more like a love/hate relationship). In the early stages, Catwoman was a supervillain who ran with the Joker, Penguin, and the Riddler. She quickly became one of the most loved enemies of Batman. It wasn’t until the early 1990s that Catwoman’s image transformed into an anti-heroine. She’s always doing the wrong things (don’t we all at times?), but it’s mostly for the right reasons. Over the years, Catwoman has featured in a few movies, with a string of stunning actresses playing the part—Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, and Camren Bicondova. With each woman bringing her own style, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing the Catwoman you’d love to be. Why do we love Catwoman? She rivals Batman with her acrobatic abilities; she’s witty; she takes what she wants; she plays every angle; she’s cunning; and she’s super stylish. catwoman-costumes-aux1-image

What makes a Catwoman costume good?

Catwoman has changed her look many times as the years have gone by. After all, that's just what chicks do, right? We don’t all get one outfit that stays the same forever (*cough, cough* Wonder Woman). And the best thing about Catwoman is you can choose your favourite era when you’re choosing your costume. Let’s have a quick recap: catwoman-costumes-aux2-image
  • Looking more like Flash Gordon, the original Catwoman costume was furry with a purple cat mask; a purple, low cut, leg-flashing dress; flowing green cape; and of course, high heel boots (although that might not be super practical for robbing buildings).
  • Next came the green catsuit. Why green? Are we green with envy? Is it because cats have green eyes? Who knows? Maybe the writers were trying to push for a Riddler/Catwoman union.
  • Let’s call this the awkward stage. With a black bodysuit and a stand-up collar, a big red masquerade mask, white leggings, and go-go boots. Catwoman’s hair was cut short and to help her look like a cat, they added a tail and cat claws.
  • Up next was the tight, revealing grey bodysuit—complete with cat ears and whiskers (so kissing scenes were off the table; poor Batman). She switched to ankle boots but kept the tail, and wore long gloves with sharp claws.
  • What happens when you get your own movie? You change your outfit, of course. The bodysuit went back to purple with an older style mask (and no whiskers). Her hair was long and flowy; her razor-sharp claws were out of this world; and she had the type of boots your mother probably wouldn’t approve of (thigh-highs).
  • With the turn of the new century, Catwoman found her current getup. She now wears a full-body leather suit—zipping it up or down depending on her mood. Her cat-eared mask covers her eyes, and she wears googles. Her sexy boots and clawed gloves stay the same, but she’s added some bling with a belt.

Gain inspiration from the eras of Catwoman

If you love the sleek, black catsuit look, this is the era for you. Don't forget your eye mask and pointy little cat ears, along with an oversized belt worn low, an oversized round jewel necklace, and pointy black high heels. catwoman-costumes-era1 This era was a tad mixed, seeing Catwoman wearing her slinky purple dress (perfect if you're looking to be a unique kind of Catwoman). If you choose the purple dress, don't forget your whip (just for some added fun) and killer purple ankle boots. Otherwise, jump in a black body suit, knee high black boots, gloves with claws and the eye mask and cute little ears. catwoman-costumes-era2 If you're up for showing a bit more skin, you'll love this era of the super sexy Catwoman. Your face mask should frame your eyes but leave your mouth wide open, and have your cat ears pointing up on top. You must be head to toe in leather, and remember to get your gloves complete with cat claws. catwoman-costumes-era3
