There's a lot to love about October. Whether you're a fan of Halloween or Oktoberfest (or both), there's plenty of fun to be had.
So we're going to answer the age-old question: "Which one is better, Oktoberfest or Halloween?". We'll compare the different aspects of each event to try and come to a verdict on which October event is the best.
Halloween gets more and more popular in Australia every year, and it's easy to see why. Dressing up and having a party is fun for people of all ages (although the parties will be a bit different for adults and kids).
Atmosphere: Halloween is the night when all the monsters come out, so the atmosphere at any Halloween party should be spooky and scary. Any fan of horror movies or Edgar Allan Poe should be right at home with the Halloween atmosphere.
Parties: Halloween parties can be just about anything you want them to be, as long as costumes are involved. Whether you're watching Halloween movies with a few friends, going to ghost tours and haunted houses, or going to Halloween events at bars, there is a Halloween event that will appeal to everyone.
Check out our list of Halloween events that will sell out soon.
Costumes: Just like the atmosphere, Halloween costumes are usually inspired by the dark and gloomy. Although, there is nothing stopping you from dressing up as whatever you want. Lot's of people these days choose to dress up as characters from movies and TV shows, so there's really no limit to what you can do with your costume.
Food: In the US, Halloween means there's pumpkin in everything and more sweet things than you can handle. We may not have the same level of pumpkin obsession here in Australia, but you can still get all the candy and lollies you could ever want. You can even find stores that specialise in importing American candy.
Halloween also gives you plenty of opportunities to decorate food to look gruesome and scary. This is always fun to make and eat, so let your imagination run wild.
You may not be able to make the trip all the way to Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest, but that doesn't have to stop you from joining in on the festivities. You can probably find an Oktoberfest event in any major city in Australia, or you can get some friends together and have your own! Whatever your plans are for Oktoberfest, always drink responsibly.
