Nothing to wear to a '90s nostalgia party? AS IF!
There's no argument that the '90s was the greatest decade in human history. Any millennial worth their Beanie Baby will tell you that coming of age in this magical era was the
best.
There were cute boy bands who performed choreographed dance routines in matching white outfits without a trace of irony. There were iconic television shows with quality theme songs that inspired women everywhere to go to their hairdresser and request a 'Rachel'. There were wacky Y2K theories that convinced people to stockpile canned food just in case the world plunged into chaos when the millennium arrived.
There were adorable Hollywood rom-coms, nearly all starring Meg Ryan, and genre-busting teen horror flicks like
The Blair Witch Project. There were dance crazes like the Macarena (which can still be used to ruin a wedding anywhere) and Cher Horowitz's
extremely valid point that it does not say 'RSVP' on the Statue of Liberty in
Clueless.
Technology had its place, for sure - but most kids were still more likely to ask for a treehouse than a mobile phone. Fashion ranged from grungy flannel to slip dresses, and the quickest way to accessorise was with stretchy choker necklaces and butterfly hair clips.
Plus, the cartoons absolutely ruled. Nickelodeon was in its prime in the '90s, and kids who grew up in this era were blessed with such marvels as
Rugrats,
Ren & Stimpy,
Rocko's Modern Life, and
Hey Arnold!
If you've got a nineties-themed party to go to, there's no better way to give in to nostalgia than by dressing up as your favourite '90s cartoon character. Here are some of our favourite cartoon character costumes so you pay homage to the decade of girl power, mood rings and video games.
1. Teletubbies
You aren't a real '90s kid if you don't know what a Teletubby is. Possibly the most iconic of '90s cartoon character costumes, we've got a huge range of
one-size-fits-most costumes for you to say 'eh-oh!' in. Explore Teletubbyland as
Dipsy,
Tinky Winky,
Po or
Laa-Laa.
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in a half-shell! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles began as a comic book series by Mirage Studio but hit peak mania in the '90s with a cartoon series and movie. These four anthropomorphic turtles are named after Renaissance artists - Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo and Michelangelo - and we have
costumes for adults and children plus
loads of accessories. If you want to look as hot as the pizza the turtles scoff in New York's sewers, we have
sexy costumes for women as well.
3. The Rugrats
Are you adventurous like Tommy Pickle, or more of a 'fraidy cat like Chucky? Dress up as any one of the adorable Rugrats (or even Angelica) to get the 90s vibes flowing. The costumes are super simple to DIY.
4. Scooby Doo
Scooby Doo, where are yo-ouuu? Solve the mystery of what you're going to wear to your '90s nostalgia party by dressing up as
Daphne,
Fred,
Shaggy or
Velma. We even have a costume for
the big pup himself in both child and adult sizes! BYO scooby snacks.

5. Addam's Family
Everybody's favourite macabre TV family has been around for a while, but it's the movies from the '90s with
Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams that really carved a niche in our hearts and filled it with morose humour. Dress up as Wednesday with a sexy twist in this
black-and-white ensemble or just
buy the wig and add your own top, skirt and knee-highs. Alternatively, get slinky as the
matriarch Morticia or her
doting, deranged husband Gomez.
Cara mia!
