Life as we know it may have been destroyed by the pandemic, but that doesn't mean Halloween is ruined
Here at Blossom Costumes, Halloween is our favourite time of year. Dressing up as a monster, eating lollies lollies, having fun and making mischief are some of the greatest things in the world, killer virus be damned!
Unfortunately, things are a little different this year. Have you heard of this coronavirus thing going around? Boy has it put a dampener on things in 2021. But that doesn't mean you and the kids can't still have fun. Like the bad guy in a horror movie, Halloween is still alive, despite the fact it really should be dead. The good news is that there are still heaps of safe and fun ways to celebrate the spookiest of all the nights.
Read on to discover what to do for Halloween during lockdown.
Blossom Costumes has more killer costumes available online than you can shake a gore-encrusted hockey stick at. Check out our terrifyingly huge range of Halloween costumes, masks and accessories.
How to celebrate Halloween while living like a serial killer has imprisoned you in a dungeon
So you and your kids are going to be trapped in the house for Halloween. Everybody's going a little stir crazy. Stop. What's that sound? Oh cool, it's the sound of your family making the best of things.
Decorate your house
Get everybody excited for the big night by decorating your home. Go gangbusters with craft sessions and spider webs and paper chains and creepy lights. When all the decorating is done, your kids can dress up as a wild werewolf, blood-sucking vampire or creepy killer clown. Adults can join in too, of course. What father wouldn't want to dress as a zombie fisherman? What mother wouldn't love a night as Red Riding Hood?
Arrange a spooky movie night
Dreaming of screaming? Why not plonk yourself down on the couch for a Halloween movie marathon? Imagine the whole family gathered around watching Rosemary's Baby, some of you dressed as Ghostface, Jason or Jigsaw. If your kids are a bit younger, you can change things up and play movies or tv shows connected to their costume. Your kids can dress as Hermione or Dumbledore while you all watch Harry Potter.
Make some Halloween treats
A pandemic Halloween is as good a time as any to do some cooking with the kids. From witch's hat biscuits to haunted jelly, it's a chance for you and your kids to have fun experimenting while they build kitchen skills. What could be more fun than cooking with Dad dressed as a Big Baby or Deadpool?
Just remember to be safe. You don't want any blood in the kitchen. Unless it's on one of our many blood-drenched zombie costumes.
Camp out in the backyard
Halloween is always a little scary. Camping is always a little scary. Why not combine the two in lockdown? Pitch a tent in your backyard with the kids and sleep out for the night with flashlights and sleeping bags. You can all drift off, dressed as aliens, velociraptors and plague doctors. Starlight also makes for the perfect lighting for practical jokes and spookiness. You could scare the kids with an alien parasite in your chest, a saw in your head or simply just having an axe. You might even like to give a fright they'll never forget by appearing out of nowhere as Michael Myers.
Organise an online costume party
You can arrange to host a virtual event using Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts or FaceTime. It's a great way for you child and their friends to stay in touch, whether they're dressed up as a creepy scarecrow, Ghostbuster or zombie hunter. Adults don't need to feel left out either, there's screen space enough for everyone, including Dad dressed as a Haunted Tree.
Organise a reverse trick-or-treat
Talk to your neighbours about arranging reverse-trick-or treat activities. Have friends and loved ones drop treats to you doorstep, before getting the kids together to do the same thing in return, dressed as wicked witches or monster dogs. It's a contactless variation on a venerable trick-or-treating tradition.
When the pandemic ends, you and your loved ones will be able to return to trick-or-treating and normality. Until then, you can let your hair down and have a fantastic time at home this Halloween. Spend over $30 with us to receive free shipping, and enjoy the ability to split the bill into 4 easy payments through Afterpay, satisfaction guaranteed.
There you have it. Halloween hasn't been destroyed, unlike the world's economy and people's spirits. Time to select your Halloween costume from Blossom Costumes.
