Festive Ideas For The Perfect Christmas Lunch 2021

Get together with friends and neighbours for a very merry Christmas lunch

Well, this hasn't been the jolliest year for many of us. But here at Blossom Costumes, we've had the bright lights of Christmas in our future to look forward to. We know you've been clamouring to finally have your family, friends and neighbours huddled up around you, with the smell of hot cocoa in the air and Christmas carols ringing down the street.

Considering the year's events, nobody could blame you if your brain's a little too frazzled to remember how to plan the best Christmas lunch of your life — it's hard enough remembering how to interact with strangers in crowded grocery stores! If you're in charge of throwing this year's Christmas lunch, you'll need a festive spark to light up your imagination.

We're going to give you a few grand ideas for throwing a Christmas lunch so wonderful even Santa might stop by. The real one, we mean.

At Blossom Costumes, we love Christmas just as much as the next elf. Maybe even more! That's why we've curated the cutest collection of Christmas costumes to go along with our ginormous selection of costume accessories and novelty gifts.

Decorate your home like Santa's workshop

Let's begin with the basics. If you want to turn your merry little lunch into the perfect Christmas lunch, you've got to set the mood. You could go for a minimalist theme, but where's your Christmas spirit? Get out the good Christmas decorations. Tie up a wreath — actually, gather the family and get the glue gun out, and have a crack at creating your own wreaths from scratch. Don't forget the red and green tinsel, the silver stars or the baubles. You know what, why not throw a roll of Christmas toilet paper in the loo, just for a little surprise.

You could also add a little North Pole atmosphere with this Galaxy Light Show Wireless Speaker. Dim the Christmas lights and throw the stars of the northern sky across your walls! With Bluetooth connectivity, it also lets you mellow out to the tunes of classic Christmas crooners like Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Wham! or, dare we summon her... Mariah Carey!

Whip your garden up into a winter wonderland

Australians may dream of a white Christmas, but that's just not the way we do things down under. Still, we want Santa to feel at home, don't we? Buttering up ol' Saint Nick might just nab us a nice gift.

If you'd rather spend your Summer Christmas indoors and don't want to get too deep in the weeds, you can still add a little magic to your garden with a spritz of creativity. Cut out a few reindeer hoof prints from sturdy cardboard, and press them into the garden dirt, or dip them in festive washable festive paint and trek through your driveway. Who knows, maybe in their rush, Santa's sleigh has let slip a gift bag of goodies for them to find?
Sun or snow or drizzle, no weather can stop a good group of carollers. Leave out a lovely Christmas hand bell for them to ring when they're ready for you to bring the family out.

Christmas cookie competition

Whether the crowd needs a snack in the lead up to your spectacular Christmas lunch, or needs a sweet treat after the feast, or if you all just want to make sure Santa's got a quick sugar hit to keep his energy up, the Christmas cookie is always a winner.

But, here at Blossom Costumes, we've got our own tradition that we'd like to share with you. As you can imagine, we love to dress up, and our Christmas lunches are just another excuse to rifle through our costume collection. So here's what we do:

  • Invite all your guests to arrive in costume.

 - Cut your Christmas cookies a little larger and flatter than usual — you'll need the canvas space.

 - Gather a big collection of cookie decorating accessories and coloured frosting.

 - Everyone takes turns drawing the names of another guest out of a hat.

 - Everyone paints a secret portraits of the guest whose name they chose.

 - After the time limit's up, you all reveal your portraits!

It's a great game for adults and kids alike. It engages everyone's creativity, gets the laughter flowing, and it automatically makes sure there are enough cookies for everyone.

Christmas charades

Charades is a classic game fit for any occasion, but like our cookie competition, we've got out own spin on this Christmas favourite.

All you'll need to do is create a costume box! One of Santa's Christmas bags ought to do the trick. Ask all of your guests to bring a costume item to put in the costume box; they don't have to be Christmas themed — in fact, the stranger, the better.

The teams must act out Christmas-themed ideas, except now the player (or players) doing the silent acting must use whatever they find in the costume box to act out the scenes. Trust us, this great game is even better in costume.

We've got plenty of goodies to fill your costume box on our accessories page. Here are a few weird and wonderful ideas for your game of Christmas charades:

  1. 1920's Gangster Accessories
  2. Butterfly shawl
  3. Magic wand
  4. Steampunk goggles and hat
  5. Tiny pirate hat
  6. Mullet wig
  7. Medieval princess wig
  8. Inflatable guitar
  9. Inflatable banana
  10. Inflatable saxophone

Costume up for a Christmas movie together

You've enjoyed the feast and the desert. You've given gifts, shared stories, cracked open a bottle or two and now you're ready to lean back into a comfy couch and throw on an old family favourite.

But every family has their own favourite, some less conventional than others. If that sounds like your family, why not dress up as the characters in your favourite Christmas movies? Here are a few of our favourites:

Batman Returns: well, Batman's second outing does technically take place on Christmas.

The Grinch: this is a must-watch for any household.

The Christmas Chronicles: this new fantastic new addition to the Christmas watch list would have parents dressed up in Santa and Mrs Claus costumes, and could even have little boys and girls suited and booted out spectacular Christmas costumes for kids.
